Cambridge scientist-turned-recruiter boosts Proclinical team
Global life sciences recruitment and consulting business, Proclinical, has added significant gravitas to its Cambridge-based executive search team.
Cambridge-born Dominic Cappell brings an array of technical experience to Proclinical Executive, having started his career as a scientist working in the medical devices and IVD field.
As economic conditions put a strain on the recruitment sector, Proclinical – which specialises exclusively in providing talent for biopharmaceutical, biotech and medical technology companies – has continued to expand its teams in the UK, US, and Asia Pacific.
The business says it has adapted well to coronavirus-induced travel restrictions and social distancing rules, utilising its global infrastructure and shifting seamlessly to video interviewing and remote hiring.
Proclinical Executive’s office at Chesterford Research Park launched in March just days before the UK-wide coronavirus lockdown restrictions were imposed.
The company says that In this short timeframe, it has helped life science organisations hire a number of senior roles, including director of business development, chief operating officer, finance director, global head of marketing and CEO.
This success with partners operating within niche scientific areas has made it necessary to create a new position within the team, to which Cappell has been appointed.
Director Iain Hopper said: “As a highly specialised business, it’s always been our philosophy to hire individuals with technical backgrounds as recruiters to better understand and aid our partners with highly complex roles.
“We are looking to strengthen our position, continue our growth and diversify our offering with the appointment of Dominic. He brings a unique skillset and an incredibly broad background which enables him to have an impact across a number of areas.”
Cappell worked in a variety of positions within research and development, IP and quality assurance at Cambridgeshire-based organisations before making the switch to recruitment in 2017.
Cappell said: “I joined Proclinical for the opportunity to bring together the diverse and thriving market of Cambridge with this progressive world leader. I feel there is much that Proclinical can offer companies in Cambridge and East Anglia in general.”
Proclinical’s Cambridge office focusses on fulfilling executive and senior level search appointments for early stage, growth stage and SMEs across all areas of life sciences. It works closely with the Proclinical Staffing teams in London and globally to deliver permanent and contract recruitment solutions tailored to the diverse and niche Cambridge market.
