Cambridge University spin-out scents global expansion opportunities
Aqdot, the Cambridge supra-molecular chemistry company, has strengthened its commercial team to extend its product range and push intro fresh territories.
Ex Royal Navy officer Hugh Rathbone has sailed in as chief commercial officer and Mark Wrighton as marketing leader for the Cambridge University spin-out.
The company already has an A-list of international customers, for example partnering with airlines to enhance passenger experience.
Its air care products are designed to remove unwanted odours, capture Volatile Organic Compounds and other harmful particles and toxins from homes, business premises and buildings generally.
The company, which raised a £6 million Series B round in April, has key deals with Ocado and Intracrop.
Launched through Ocado, the company’s Oderase product was hailed as the first and only fragrance-free odour erasing bathroom spray in the UK market. It has been approved by Allergy UK and Good Housekeeping and achieved Cradle to Cradle Certified™ SILVER level accreditation.
Partnerships with other leading household and personal care companies are in the pipeline.
Intracrop is a leading supplier of proprietary and innovative crop treatments and Aqdot’s technology is being applied to improve oilseed rape yields by reducing the incidence of pod shatter.
CEO Tim Wright says: “Our ground-breaking odour capture and emulsification technology has significant potential to unlock a wide range of game-changing innovation opportunities for manufacturers in categories including household, personal care, cosmetics and agricultural productivity.
“We are focussed on helping consumer brand R & D and marketing managers to develop truly market-leading innovation, exploiting our unique chemistry, and my focus is particularly in the area of odour neutralisation.
“We welcome Hugh and Mark to the talented team of scientists and innovators at Aqdot. We are dedicated to commercialising the chemistry we have developed, and the appointment of Hugh and Mark will further our capabilities to achieve this.
“Ambitious plans to work with customers in a wide range of sectors, from personal care and professional cleaning to agriculture are core to our business and their experience and expertise will prove invaluable.”
