Stansted adds winter sports destination

Stansted is to get its first daily service to Chambery when flyglobespan begin flying to the increasingly popular winter sports destination in December.Stansted is to get its first daily service to Chambery when flyglobespan begin flying to the increasingly popular winter sports destination in December.

And prices will start from only £29.99 per sector including taxes, as the web-based airline bids to add to the success of the daily routes it already has out of Stansted.

Flyglobespan currently offers Tenerife and Athens daily from Stansted and sees the launch of this new ski route as an important addition to their schedule.

More and more winter sports fans heading for many of the French Alps resorts are choosing to go to Chambery rather than traditional airports like Lyon or Geneva.

Flying straight to Chambery rather than these other airports can save up to half the transfer time it normally takes to get to the snow and popular resorts like Alpe d’Huez, Courchevel and Val d’Isere.

This new route is the latest expansion that has seen flyglobespan increase its UK presence in addition to its traditionally strong Scottish bases of Glasgow and Edinburgh.

It recently launched a variety of routes from Manchester and Liverpool and anticipates further growth in the near future – in both long haul and short haul sectors.

Chairman Tom Dalrymple said: “Chambery is a very good destination for us. It is in an ideal location for some fantastic Alpine resorts and is attracting more and more skiers every year.

“Once skiers realised how close it is to certain resorts, it makes it the ideal gateway.”

Stansted Airport’s Business Development & Planning Director, Nick Barton added: “Stansted already offers more direct scheduled connections throughout Europe than any other airport in the world; and this new link will prove to be extremely popular, especially with thrill seeking winter sports enthusiasts who can take advantage of the short easy links Chambery offers to some of the best ski resorts Europe has on offer.”

Flyglobespan launched in April 2002. It is one of Britain’s fastest growing airlines and was voted Airline of the Year by Scottish BAA last year. It is a subsidiary of The Globespan Group Plc a wholly owned British company established in 1974.
