Cargo plane leaves Stansted with medical supplies for Ukraine

A shipment of 35 pallets of medical supplies for Ukraine has flown out from Stansted Airport.

The aid, provided by the UK government, was loaded onto a Titan Airways cargo aircraft before being flown to Rzeszow, Poland, and then transported to Ukraine.

Masks, catheter sets, and monitors for intensive care units were included in the shipment.

Titan Airways commercial director Alex Harrington said: “We are proud to support the relief efforts with use of our 737-cargo aircraft which has gone, fully loaded with 18 tonnes of medical supplies, from London Stansted to Poland before going on to Ukraine.

“We received a call from the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office asking if we had an aircraft available to support. We have worked with the Department of Health and Social Care previously flying COVID-19 test kits from London Stansted to Belfast and with FCDO on aid missions to Nepal, Iran and Haiti. We have a long-standing relationship and were delighted to be able to help when asked.”

Landing fees normally apply to flights operating from Stansted but the airport has waived them for flights carrying aid to Ukraine.

Nick Millar, Operations Director at London Stansted, said: “As one of the busiest cargo airports in the UK, London Stansted along with our partners at Titan Airways and Swissport Cargo are pleased to have supported the transportation of aid to Ukraine.”
