Ball at Queens’ College to raise charity funding

Will-Axon

Care Network Cambridgeshire (CNC) is holding its inaugural Michaelmas Ball on Saturday 21st September at Queens’ College, Cambridge to raise awareness of the charity as well as fundraising to support the work it carries out.

CNC helps people in their own communities to set up and run community groups such as car schemes, mobile warden schemes, lunch clubs and even village internet cafes, in support of the elderly and vulnerable in our community.

CNC also runs the Help at Home service, which incorporates Welcome Home from Hospital, based at Addenbrooke’s Hospital. CNC’s volunteers assist patients returning to their own home for the first three weeks after their hospital stay. New this year is the Community Navigators Scheme, where CNC guides elderly and vulnerable people towards services and activities they need or might enjoy.

A number of businesses in the region are backing the Michaelmas Ball in the form of sponsorship and donations, including Abcam plc, Newmarket Racecourses, N W Brown Group Ltd, Prentis and Co LLP., Price Bailey LLP., S2 Partnership Ltd and The Marshall Group.

The event has also received a significant donation from an anonymous benefactor as well as a donation from the Charity’s founders, Sheila and Robert Stephenson.

The evening opens with a reception in the spectacular setting of the Old Hall, Queens’ College followed by a three course meal. Evening entertainment includes music from local band, Loose Talk, and a Charity Auction.

Auctioneer Will Axon (BBC1’s Flog It! and Celebrity Antiques Road Trip) from Rowley’s Fine Art Auctioneers will be running the auction on the night which CNC hopes will raise significant funds from bids on a variety of donations. A week’s holiday in a Spanish villa and another in a waterside property in Cornwall have been gifted by trustees, whilst Price Bailey LLP demonstrated its support for the fundraising ball with the donation of a week’s stay in a cottage in Walberswick. Also up for bidding are vouchers for a Newmarket Racecourse event, a balloon ride anywhere in the UK and a private tour of Marshalls of Cambridge.

Lorraine Harrison, Director at the S2 Partnership, confirming a Gold sponsorship package, commented “We’re delighted to sponsor the Michaelmas Ball. It’s a great opportunity to support a fantastic event, and more importantly, to actively contribute towards the extremely valuable services and support Care Network Cambridgeshire delivers locally.”

Nimisha Roma Patel from Abcam’s Charities Committee adds, “We hope that this money helps you to run your invaluable support network and continue to help vulnerable people in the Cambridgeshire area.”

As a few tables of 12 are still available for £1200, there is an opportunity for other local businesses to get involved. For further information about how to book a table or to find out about other Michaelmas Ball sponsorship opportunities, email charityball [at] care-network.org.uk or call Care Network on telephone number: +44 (0)1954 211919
