Dr Parker has a longstanding relationship with Amadeus, having collaborated on projects for more than 20 years. He will support the team in identifying and assessing promising investment opportunities and advise portfolio companies as they scale and commercialise.

An experienced executive and entrepreneur in the technology sector, Dr Parker is a physicist and engineer by training. He has a PhD from Imperial College, is a Chartered Engineer, a Fellow of the Institute of Physics and a Fellow of the Royal Academy of Engineering.

Following a successful career in product design and technology management in photonics, Dr Parker moved into an executive role and has led large, international, optical components operations for companies such as Hewlett Packard, Agilent Technologies and Marconi.

Formerly, he was CEO of SPI Lasers, where he grew the business to become one of the largest suppliers of fibre-based industrial laser systems in the world and led its IPO and subsequent sale.

More recently Dr Parker has returned to his passion of creating and managing early-stage technology companies. He has served as Chair of several companies in the optical communications, semiconductor and IoT space and co-founded and led Lumenisity – a world leader in Hollow Core Fibre – from inception to its acquisition.

Anne Glover, CEO and Co-Founder of Amadeus, said: “We are excited to have such a brilliant mind and hugely experienced executive joining our deep tech team here at Amadeus.

“Gaining access to David’s expertise, drawn from running both startups and global enterprises, will be a great advantage to our portfolio companies, as he has first-hand experience of turning revolutionary ideas into scalable, profitable businesses.”

Dr Parker added: “Amadeus is an established leader in deep tech investment and many of its portfolio companies are transforming industry and healthcare with novel application-led technology. I am happy to join the team, share some experiences and help support and mentor some great teams to success.”

It is the second significant coup in the last six months for Amadeus which, in mid-December, persuaded Cambridge dontrepreneur Professor Steve Young to join as a Venture Investor. Professor Young built and sold some superb companies to global greats, not least Entropic to Microsoft and VocalIQ to Apple.
