Californian gleaming as 1Spatial strengthens Caltrans alliance

The deal consolidates multiple bilateral software licences into a single EA, simplifying the process and broadening the six-year relationship with Caltrans, the AIM-quoted Cambridge company says.
The EA enables Caltrans to rapidly deploy additional 1Spatial licences as required and includes annual enterprise licences of $1.5m representing a 50 per cent increase in licence revenue on FY25.
Caltrans is the state agency responsible for the design, construction, maintenance, and operation of California’s transportation infrastructure. It oversees more than 50,000 miles of roads and plays a central role in ensuring the safe and efficient movement of people and goods across California. 1Spatial’s technology underpins Caltrans’ long term data governance strategy.
Caltrans initially engaged 1Spatial six years ago to utilise its LMDM platform including 1Integrate and 1Datagateway to check data quality, which it did more efficiently and effectively than prior solutions.
During the six-year tenure, 1Spatial has broadened and deepened the relationship, building trust in the 1Spatial platform which is now used for data governance (validating, integrating and synchronising key databases) across multiple systems and programmes.
These include Transport Asset Management Systems, the Transport Systems Network Revamp project and Local Next Generation 9-1-1 (NG9-1-1) systems, establishing a complete and maintained Road Centerline database as part of the California Roads Sharing (CaRS) Program.
1Spatial has steadily increased the deployment of licences over the past six years through multiple bilateral software licence agreements. The entry into an annually renewing EA consolidates these software licences into one easier to procure and maintain arrangement which allows the State to deploy additional 1Spatial technology as and when it requires.
The EA will review licences used annually and ‘true up’ the licences used in the EA for the following year. The EA includes approximately $500k of incremental licence revenues compared to the previous year, the majority of which has been deployed by Caltrans over the period to July 2025.
1Spatial expects a further step up in FY27. It says it will continue to work collaboratively with Caltrans to identify additional areas where the technology can be deployed.
Caltrans is one the most influential Departments of Transport (DOT) in the US and use cases that have been implemented within California are replicable with the other DOTs. 1Spatial has ongoing projects with six more DOTs, each with expansion opportunity.
1Spatial CEO, Claire Milverton, said: "We are delighted to deepen our long-standing partnership with Caltrans through this new Enterprise Agreement. It not only streamlines procurement and deployment but also reflects the growing strategic importance of our technology in supporting Caltrans’ data governance initiatives.
"This agreement is a strong endorsement of our platform’s scalability and value, and we look forward to continuing to deliver impactful solutions that help shape the future of transportation infrastructure in California and beyond."
