Cambridge Sensotec steps on the gas with re-engineered top team
The move follows a successful year with the company achieving on-budget sales and a substantial increase in profitability. The new structure is designed to ensure a seamless leadership succession while enhancing the company’s focus on its core technology.
Mark Swetnam, who founded the business in 2000 and has served as Managing Director since its inception, will step down from his role to concentrate on product innovation and technology development. He will be succeeded by Luke Shields, currently the Production Manager.
Founded in 2000, Cambridge Sensotec is a globally respected manufacturer of high-performance gas analysers and gas detection systems. The company provides innovative solutions for a wide range of industries, shipping to over 80 countries worldwide.
With a commitment to quality, precision, and customer service, Cambridge Sensotec says it helps clients achieve safety, efficiency, and compliance.
Its main export territories are China, Taiwan, Korea and the United States. The self-funded business is soon to ramp slightly to 37 staff and intends to offer customers a wider range of analysis options. Cambridge Sensotec plans to open new international offices in the future and says staff expansion in Cambridgeshire will meet growing demand.
Swetnam said: “It’s been an incredible privilege to lead the company. To have built it from the early days in my garage to the global leader it is today is an amazing experience. This year has been particularly rewarding, with the team delivering on-budget sales and a substantial increase in profitability, which is a testament to our collective strength.
“This success provides the perfect springboard for the new leadership team. I am thrilled to now be able to concentrate fully on the role I’ve always loved - product design and engineering - and to support Luke as he leads the company to even greater heights.”
This transition ensures that the company’s founders will now dedicate their expertise to advancing the company’s core technology. Co-founder Donald Kings will hand over his responsibilities as R & D Director to Nigel Gregg, currently Senior Development Engineer. Kings will continue to contribute to product development with a focus on electronics and software.
The new senior management team, which has a combined experience at the company of more than 55 years, will be completed by Layla Greenhall as Finance Director and Mike Parish as Sales & Marketing Director. Together with Luke Shields and Nigel Gregg they feel exceptionally well-prepared to guide the company’s future success.
Shields said: "I am honoured to take on the role of Managing Director. We are starting from a position of incredible strength thanks to the team’s performance this year and the robust foundation built by our founders.
"My focus will be on empowering our team to continue this momentum, driving commercial growth while we sharpen our technological edge. I am grateful for the founders’ continued support and mentorship as we serve our customers worldwide."
Founders Mark Swetnam, Donald Kings, and Victor Stekly will all remain active in the business with Mark and Donald continuing as Principal Scientists and Victor supporting the new senior management team to execute the growth blueprint.
