Echion secures deal with South Korean battery company

Grinergy will apply Echion’s niobium-based anode material XNO®️ to the next-generation fast-charging battery system it is developing.
XNO®️ is an anode material based on niobium that simultaneously implements high output, excellent thermal stability and fast charging.
The XNO® battery using this material is evaluated as an innovative technology that guarantees fast charging and long life even in extreme environments and overcomes the limitations of existing graphite materials. In particular, the battery is expected to have an energy density that is improved by more than 50 per cent compared to the existing LTO (lithium titanate)version – and the cost is expected to be reduced by more than 20 per cent.
A Grinergy official said: “XNO®️ is the core of the high output and high reliability battery solution that we are pursuing and with this contract we plan to launch XNO®-based battery products in earnest starting in the second half of 2025.”
In particular, the company aims to quickly enter markets that require high-speed charging and discharging and high safety, such as the railway, defence, and logistics industries.
