Anthony McGurk, one of the best corporate lawyers Business Weekly has ever had the pleasure to work with, died suddenly at the weekend. Tributes have been pouring in to a brilliant lawyer and also a true gentleman.

To say his colleagues are shocked is an understatement. More than this, lawyers across the discipline, accountants who knew Anthony, and other leading business executives have added their condolences.

Although Anthony was on the verge of retirement and was latterly working on a consultancy basis for Mills & Reeve, his dedication to clients never wavered.

He was one of the first professionals I had the pleasure to meet when Business Weekly was building its presence in the corporate world and whenever or wherever I had the pleasure of bumping into him – whether it was in a lift at Mills & Reeve or elsewhere with a colleague or a mutual client, he was unerringly gentlemanly and polite as well as stunningly efficient.

His career deserves to be celebrated. With around 30 years of experience he acted for listed and private companies and helped clients here and globally undertake M & As and fundraisings. He acted for Weetabix on the sale by its private owners Lion Capital of a controlling interest to Chinese based Bright Food and received a number of significant accolades for his work.
