New apprenticeship opportunities as Domino toasts 10 years of scheme
Domino is offering two opportunities at its Bar Hill headquarters, a Machine Learning Apprentice and an Advanced Analytical Chemist Apprentice, both Level 6. Both are based around a structured programme with rotations in different departments across the company, as well as study at local colleges or by distance learning.
The study provider for the Machine Learning role is Cambridge Spark and for the Chemist, the University of Kent Applied Chemical Sciences.
Since it was established in 2016, the Apprenticeship Scheme has seen 38 employees reap rewards from being able to earn whilst they learn and benefit from experience gained in a range of departments and functions.
Domino has seen a strong 75 per cent retention rate and many apprentices have advanced from entry-level roles to degree-qualified engineers, including Tom Fleckney who has graduated as a Mechanical Design Engineer and Peter Mizuro as a Mechanical Engineer.
Last year the opportunities for apprentices broadened, with Domino leading the way in a new initiative with Automate UK, creating a member Cluster to deliver reciprocal training and team building and expand the acquisition of skills and experience to fill the future pipeline in the manufacturing sector.
Current plans are to expand the Cluster nationally following successful pilot schemes, with Make UK joining the collaboration. The Apprentice Cluster made a major impact at a recent Processing & Packaging Machinery Association (PPMA) and as a result has been invited to rebuild and present the project at the Manufacturing Technologies Association (MACH) exhibition at the NEC in April.
Mark Gearing, Print System Director at Domino said: “In the ten years since we first established our Apprenticeship Scheme, we have been able to offer participants an excellent introduction to a career in manufacturing, backed up by complementary studying.
“What we can offer has now been enhanced with the launch of our ground-breaking Apprenticeship Cluster program which is growing from strength to strength, delivering valuable reciprocal opportunities for the Apprentices participating and benefitting companies too as we futureproof our workforce for the future.
“The latest success at PPMA and the subsequent invitation to repeat the exercise at MACH, demonstrates how the group has risen to the challenge and excelled not only in terms of studies, but also developed professionally to meet deadlines and achieve beyond expectations. I am immensely proud of what our Apprentices have achieved.”
