A pioneer in GaN-based semiconductor technology and a global fabless MicroLED company, Porotech is partnering with Taiwan’s General Interface Solution Holding in its latest venture.

GIS is an integrated touch solution company invested by the Foxconn Technology Group which has stepped into the Augmented Reality (AR) area by investing in optical component and optical module tech for micro-display applications.

The latest partnership will expedite the production of brightest, high pixel density, smallest and low-cost AR product for consumer applications.

GIS’s proprietary technologies in optical components and modules combined with Porotech’s world leading technologies in PoroGaN® MicroLED-on-Silicon (uLEDoS), Dynamic Pixel Tuning® (DPT®) Technology for micro-display platform will ensure the successful commercialisation of a range of AR products. These include glasses, head-up displays (HUD) and head-mounted displays (HMD).

Mass producing the Porotech micro-display – enabled by partnering Hon Hai Technology Group (also Foxconn), Powerchip Semiconductor Manufacturing Corp. (PSMC) and now with GIS – is a significant advance in the commercialisation of AR products for consumer applications.

GIS’s strength in mass-manufacturing of optical components and modules will deliver best-in-class performing nextgen AR products.

Both Porotech and GIS are enthused by the immense potential of micro-display AR solutions for consumer markets. This partnership represents a commitment to capitalise on manufacturing precision with unparalleled product performance for high volume and low-cost AR products.

Dr Tongtong Zhu, Chief Executive Officer and Co-founder of Porotech, commented: “Our collaboration with GIS signifies another momentous step forward for bringing the best AR products and solutions to the market.

“This strategic partnership speaks volumes about our shared dedication to innovation and excellence. MicroLED’s role in the AR market is undeniable. An exciting road lies ahead with GIS, propelling tremendous opportunity of commercialisation with our mutual partners and customers with collective triumph and significant growth in the MicroLED revolution.”
