SyndicateRoom and Carbon13 launch ninth ClimateTech fund
SyndicateRoom is a data-driven VC platform and Carbon13, an experienced venture builder for the climate emergency and they have just launched the Carbon13 Climatetech SEIS Fund IX.
The launch follows a landmark year for Carbon13, which recently completed its 100th investment. While global ClimateTech funding has faced significant headwinds, the UK market continues to show remarkable resilience, with domestic investment in the sector surging by 24 per cent over the last 12 months. This surge is being driven by strong demand in the energy sector and AI technologies.
Unlike broad-market trackers, Fund IX is built on a proprietary 'Venture Builder' model that prioritises defensibility and radical carbon impact. Every startup chosen for the portfolio must not only develop a robust business plan but also play a part in Carbon13’s aim of supporting thousands of entrepreneurs to build ventures with the collective potential to mitigate over 400 million tonnes of carbon dioxide equivalent (CO2e) per annum by 2040.
"2026 marks a 'sophisticated reset' in the venture market," says Tom Britton, Co-founder of SyndicateRoom. "Investors are moving away from speculative hype and toward businesses with proprietary data and real-world defensibility. Our partnership with Carbon13 is designed to capture this shift, focusing on the hard-science breakthroughs – from bioengineering to robotics – that are actually capable of scaling to meet the climate challenge. And the experienced teams building them."
Following the 2025 Autumn Budget, the Carbon13 SEIS Fund IX provides a timely mechanism for strategic capital management as the fiscal year-end approaches. By leveraging ‘carry-back’ provisions, investors can apply 50% income tax relief to either the current 2025/26 period or the 2024/25 tax year, offering a valuable window to offset previous liabilities while deploying capital into high-conviction innovation.
David Gill, Director at Carbon13, said: "We don't have time for incremental solutions. Fund IX is the rocket fuel for our current cohort of founders who are working on everything from transforming waste into breakthrough materials to unlocking the final frontiers of renewable energy. This is where savvy investors can make an impact, and hopefully a good return."
