Sun Environmental Services will use the £1 million in funding to invest in a state-of-the-art wash plant facility at its Thetford site.

The equipment is designed to clean and sort raw materials, such as sand or gravel, to remove contaminants and impurities. The new investment also has allowed the company to employ nine staff members.

The wash plant has the capacity to wash 100,000 tons of material per year. The facility will enable the business to reduce the volume of waste it produces by 25,000 tonnes per annum and, instead of sending it to landfill, it will enter the recycled materials market.

The materials produced at the wash plant facility are intended for sale to the construction industry for use in a variety of applications, including block making, pipe bedding, drainage, concrete, road laying and impermeable linings.

It is anticipated that the business will see a revenue increase of £1.8 million over the next year.

Mat Stewart, Director at Sun Environmental Services, said: “We’re incredibly grateful to the team at HSBC UK for supporting us as we look to grow the business. The funding will enable us to improve our services, and has allowed us to expand our work force, resulting in the employment of nine new members of staff.”
