Norfolk crab and lobster supplier earns HSBC finance package
Jonas Seafood, Norfolk’s premium crab and lobster supplier, is capitalising on the UK’s economic recovery by investing for rapid growth this year, boosting both production capacity and employee numbers.
The company, established in 1995, received a £210,000 finance package from HSBC to facilitate its expansion plans, which included the opening of a new £500,000 factory and purpose-built seafood shop in Cromer.
The finance was secured from HSBC’s Norfolk & Waveney Commercial Centre in a deal managed by Michael Tubby. HSBC recently announced £300 million in new lending for SMEs in the East of England to help businesses achieve their growth plans.
The investment will increase production capacity, enabling Jonas Seafood to process up to 1,500 crabs per day and up to 70,000 lobsters a year. The company supplies 15,000 restaurants and retailers across the UK.
To ensure supply can meet growing demand, the business also recently more than doubled its workforce to a headcount of 49, and future growth plans include extending its product range to appeal to a wider client base.
