Entente cordiale at a gallop

La Teste

A UK-French bloodstock collaboration has been formed by auctioneer Tattersalls in Newmarket to boost investment opportunities.

Tattersalls has formed a strategic alliance with fledgling French sales company Osarus. Tattersalls will provide logistical and personnel support to the French based firm, in particular for yearling inspections and auctioneering.

Tattersalls will also provide administrative and financial support, as well as acting in an advisory role as Osarus continues to develop its sales calendar.

Solicitor Rachel Flynn of Cambridge-based Taylor Vinters’ internationally rated horseracing and equine practice said: “Although Tattersalls has enjoyed record sales from its Newmarket based operation in 2012, the business has an established international track record.

“The French connection is no surprise as so many bloodstock investors are now finding the well-funded French racing and breeding industry an attractive place to own and breed racehorses.”

Tattersalls chairman Edmond Mahony added: “This new alliance is an exciting venture for both Tattersalls and Osarus. We have been closely observing the progress and development of Osarus for a while now and have been enormously impressed with the way in which the team has established a niche in the French market in a relatively short space of time.

“Osarus is a French company working hard for French breeders and we hope that our new arrangement will allow them to continue to develop and build upon the success that they have worked so hard to achieve in recent years.

“Our involvement with Osarus also reflects the importance that Tattersalls has always placed on building and strengthening relationships in key markets around the world.

“The French racing and breeding industry is well structured and well funded and the close ties between Tattersalls and Osarus emphasise the high regard in which we hold both Osarus and the wider French industry.”

Emmanuel Viaud, managing director of Osarus, felt the alliance was “a very significant moment in the continuing development of Osarus.”

He said: “The strategic alliance between ourselves and the leading bloodstock auctioneers in Europe is a huge endorsement for Osarus and for the French bloodstock industry.

“We are a young, ambitious team with a vision based on our confidence in the French breeding industry and we are delighted that Tattersalls shares our vision.

“Osarus has enjoyed its best ever year in 2012, in particular at our flagship September Yearling Sale at La Teste, and together with our new partners Tattersalls, we look forward to building on this success and to continuing to provide the best possible service to French breeders in the years to come.”
