Cambridge company provides Samsung with its own fort KNOX

Ben Cade of Trustonic in Cambridge has partnered with Samsung on initiative

Cambridge technology tyro Trustonic has joined forces with South Korean electronics giant Samsung to launch a new security solution for mobile devices.

Trustonic for KNOX is said to simplify security procedures for service providers. The solution is embedded in Samsung’s new flagship Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 edge smartphones and will also be made available across a selection of existing Samsung Galaxy mobile devices via software updates.

Its implementation will enable app providers to streamline their identification and security checks, providing consumers with quicker and more compelling services, the partners said.

With mobile devices increasingly serving as wallets, identification systems and repositories of personal data, security is becoming a core concern for the mobile industry and end consumers of devices. That was the trigger for the collaboration.

“We understand the importance of evolving Samsung KNOX to meet the ever-changing needs of enterprise and professional mobile security,” said Rick Segal, for Samsung Electronics.

“We will continue to provide solutions to our customers and partners that allow them to feel confident and comfortable in using their mobile devices in the workplace. Embedding the Galaxy S6 and S6 edge with Trustonic for KNOX will enable ecosystem players to build new services and applications that will take mobile security to a new level.”

Trustonic for KNOX combines the advanced and robust integrated security features of Samsung KNOX with Trustonic TEEs’ hardware-based security to provide a trusted platform for service providers to deliver an enriched, simplified and consistent user experience.

Samsung’s Galaxy S6 and S6 edge will integrate the Trustonic Trusted User Interface, which simplifies user authentication by enabling simpler passwords, protects against attempts at click-jacking, and increases end user confidence that transaction approvals are genuine.

Trustonic CEO, Ben Cade (pictured) said: “The growing trend of using increasingly important services on mobile devices makes it essential to combine increased trust in the device with a seamless, simple user experience.
Trustonic for KNOX will see the Trusted User Interface deployed in massive volume, truly raising the bar on the experiences consumers expect. This is a truly significant development in mobile security.”

Through this partnership, government, enterprise and vertical industry clients gain a complete, powerful platform incorporating strong user authentication, single sign-on, secure tokenisation, and enhanced trust for mobile device management, Cade added.

Trustonic integrates hardware-level security and trust directly into the devices through which we access today’s connected world. It simplifies user experiences in everything from mobile shopping and Internet banking to entertainment to collaborating in the workplace.

Trustonic technology is embedded in over 400 million smart connected devices the company partners with market leaders such as Samsung, Qualcomm, Symantec, Gemalto and Good Technology.
