Rapid flow cytometric screening method

A Finnish research group has invented a novel fast method (BIS point method), a flow cytometric immunophenotyping of phagocytes using the screening panels of monoclonal receptor-specific antibodies for distinguishing between bacterial an viral infections in about 1 hour. This BIS point method can be applied to differentiate between bacterial and viral (e.g. H1N1 swine flu) pneumonias with 92% sensitivity and 100% specificity.Ref: 11 FI 30I0 3LO6
