AstraZeneca backs biotech and healthcare ideas event in Cambridge

Judge Business School

A crucible for new biotech and healthcare technologies has been created by Cambridge Judge Business School in partnership with AstraZeneca and the university.

Budding BioMedTech entrepreneurs are being invited to pitch novel ideas and meet specialists who can test their validity, identify potential gamechanging solutions and help translate the IP into commercial reality, possibly through the formation of focused startup teams.

The Biotech & Healthcare Venture Creation Weekend from June 23-25 at Cambridge Judge is an intellectual filter for students, postdocs, scientists and researchers working on emerging technologies and innovations in this arena.

The Entrepreneurship Centre is working in partnership with AstraZeneca and the Office of Postdoctoral Affairs (OPdA) at the University of Cambridge to offer aspiring entrepreneurs and innovators the chance to explore opportunities, ideas and applications in a range of technologies such as novel biological targets, therapeutics and research technologies, digital health (including artificial intelligence, connected data sets), diagnostics or any transformative healthcare solution.

Attendees can not only sound out industry experts but also draw inspiration from peers and mentors, learn the basics of building a business and how to collaborate in a team environment.

Participants can go ‘founder-dating’, i.e. use the weekend to match up with one or more co-founders for their business. All participants will work together in teams on customer development, business models, pitching practice and building product prototypes, where appropriate.

The ideas deemed most worthy will be pitched to a panel of judges comprising industry leaders and investors who can provide expert feedback and analysis.

One or more of the participating teams will be invited for an interview to join the Accelerate Cambridge incubator programme delivered by the CJBS Entrepreneurship Centre if the team meets the selection criteria.

The Biotech & Healthcare jamboree starts at 17:30 on Friday June 23 and ends at 7pm on Sunday June 25.

There is a special closing dinner following the final pitches to celebrate the achievements of the weekend. Applications are open now until Thursday June 22. To find out more, email venture [at] jbs.cam.ac.uk
