Juniper partner raises £15.5k for pancreatic cancer
The last time Mike Ayton, a partner with niche agency Juniper Real Estate, donned his walking boots for charity was to climb Mount Kenya with a group of Cambridge property professionals in aid of Save the Rhino.
For his latest charitable venture, Ayton set his sights on a more domestic scale – with his family in tow – to tackle the 25 mile Yorkshire Three Peaks Challenge.
Accompanied by his wife Gay, daughter Rosie and sister Liz, they successfully climbed Ingleborough, Penyghent & Whernside, raising over £15,500 for Pancreatic Cancer UK.
“One of our close friends was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer last August” explains Mike “and now has stage four of this dreadful disease.
“It receives only one per cent of the total cancer research budget yet it is the fifth most common cause of cancer deaths, so we were determined to do something.
“I have walked the Three Peaks before, as a lad in the days of Hillier Parker, but luckily, I had forgotten how steep and long some of the stretches were, otherwise I might have thought twice about it!
“It took the best part of 12 hours and was a tough day. My phone app logged over 62,000 steps – but that’s nothing compared to the pain our friend and others suffer daily from this cancer.”
